Whether you're setting up the Trezor Model One® or Trezor Model T®, this guide walks you through the verified steps to initialize your wallet, protect your funds, and ensure you're interacting only with Trezor®’s authentic tools and software.
Why Start with Trezor.io/Start®
Visiting Trezor.io/Start® ensures that your setup is secure, up-to-date, and connected to Trezor®'s official software environment. It is the trusted entry point to:
- Download the latest Trezor Suite (desktop or browser version)
- Install device firmware verified by Trezor®
- Begin generating and storing your recovery seed offline
- Receive guided, real-time setup assistance tailored to your device
By starting at Trezor.io/Start®, you eliminate the risk of phishing websites, counterfeit firmware, or malicious third-party apps. Your crypto deserves verified protection—and this is where it begins.
Unboxing and Pre-Setup Check
Before beginning setup, verify your device is genuine. A new Trezor® device should include:
- Trezor® hardware wallet (Model One® or Model T®)
- USB cable
- Recovery seed cards
- User guide and stickers
- No pre-installed firmware (it will install during setup)
If you notice tampering or a device that appears previously used, do not proceed. Always purchase directly from Trezor.io® or official resellers.
How to Start Your Trezor® Wallet
Step 1: Visit Trezor.io/Start®
Connect your device to your computer using the USB cable and go to Trezor.io/Start®. You’ll be prompted to download Trezor Suite, the all-in-one crypto wallet application that lets you securely manage your assets.
Choose the version of Trezor Suite that matches your operating system (Windows, macOS, or Linux) or use the web version if preferred.
Step 2: Install Firmware
If the device is new, it will have no firmware installed. Trezor Suite will detect this and guide you through installing the latest official firmware. This step ensures your wallet has not been preloaded with malicious code.
Step 3: Create a New Wallet
After firmware installation, you’ll choose to create a new wallet or recover an existing one using your recovery seed.
When creating a new wallet, Trezor® will generate a 12- or 24-word recovery phrase. This phrase is the only backup to your funds. Write it down on the provided seed card and store it in a safe, offline location. Never share this phrase or enter it online.
Step 4: Secure Your Device
Set up a PIN to protect access to your device. Each time you connect your Trezor® wallet, this PIN will be required. You can also enable a passphrase for additional security.
Next Steps: Manage Crypto with Confidence
With your Trezor® device initialized, you can now use Trezor Suite to:
- Add and manage multiple crypto accounts
- Send and receive digital currencies
- Track your portfolio in real-time
- Buy, sell, or exchange coins
- Connect with supported third-party apps and DeFi services
All actions require confirmation on your physical Trezor® device, ensuring no transaction is completed without your physical approval.
